Picture this: You have the perfect idea, or so you think. You sit down to write, and the only thing you can think of is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Minutes, maybe hours later, your cursor is still blinking, and you've written nothing…
Screenwriting isn't about luck. It's about the hard work before you find your lucky clover (that perfect script). It's about collaboration and accountability. This workshop is here to fix all of that. With two breakout sessions in small groups, take your idea at any stage, get feedback, workshop ideas or areas you're stuck, and start writing.
We'll start with a pep talk from writer/director Cameron Gallagher: how to make ideas into marketable films, what key elements and feedback he's heard from producers, and what the industry seems to want from screenplays today. After, you'll break into groups of 2-3 where each person will have a block of time to pitch their idea and the problems they're having. Each member will help work those out, and then…it's time to write. A sprint section dedicated to focused writing—write as much as you can. Then we'll break for lunch, workshop where you've gotten and how the writing went, and do another sprint. We'll close out with where to go now, what to do next, and how to stay motivated.
This workshop is designed to be a recurring workshop for writers of all ages and backgrounds. From beginners to seasoned pros, it's not about being told what to do—it's about doing it!
Join us Tuesday, March 17th at 9am at WorkSmart Coworking and Meeting Space in Glens Falls, New York, and take the luck out of it.
